3rd Law Dance/Theater*
The Company

THE VISION:  To build a company that is known for creating unique, original dance/theater works of extraordinary excellence, and to present them on a national stage.

THE MISSION:  To create narratively-structured, evening-length concerts and site-specific performance pieces that demonstrate our passionate belief in the power of live, in-the-moment art to transport audiences emotionally, personally and intellectually in ways impossible through other art forms.

THE WORK:  Award-winning 3rd Law Dance/Theater builds “mesmerizing” and “striking” dance performances that  express the artistic vision of its directors—a vision that merges a powerful, energetic bodily idiom with a thoughtful and personal spirit. We conceive, design and present provocative, entertaining performances that engage the audience. We desire to create a magical space for our audience, a space that will transport them for the evening to a place outside of the here and now.

We are adept at addressing serious subject matter with a witty and droll style—creating a unique and exciting brand of performance: dramatic soundscapes, moving imagery, thoughtful and engaging narration, vivid and imaginative costuming and lighting. We invent athletic, gesture-based movement embodied in new, distinctive vocabularies—all to evoke heartfelt response from our audience.

The company draws on every theatrical device and scheme to entrance its audience and create that magical space, and we collaborate with electronic media artists to extend our reach. In recognition of that accomplishment, the directors were awarded the “Cutting Edge” Award of the Colorado Dance Alliance for “innovative and creative use of twenty-first century artistic and technological tools in dance.”

Every year the company is seen by thousands of audience members in settings as expansive as Denver Botanic Gardens and as intimate as the Emmanuel Gallery at Auraria Campus. 3rd Law has appeared to acclaim at the National Performing Arts Convention and Denver “Museum Night” and has collaborated with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
